Defining Targets is Easy! Get seven steps to achieve it.
The public says that putting a goal and achieving it is nothing less than a constant struggle steeped in general virtuous principles with hard work and relentless dedication to this particular objective. That is supported not only for individuals but also for team sports, such as for business!
Even harder, with the latter, is that you need to put many goals and achieve them. At the same time, the “mastermind“ and “determination“ should also permeate the cooperative spirit of all associates. These - like so (deliberately) made - like “metaphysical philosophic problem“ Do you believe it! Do you want to! Be persistent ever! How many and which can cope? Let those who want to meet a practical method in simple and easy steps leave metaphysics out of the field of cognitive achievement goals (at least of the Earth!).
Step 1: We write the objective as a complex sentence or paragraph.
As the following:
“The business-we will deliver the goods quickly, with minimum cost and with minimum possible defective pieces while the response-our customer‘s problems will be optimal. Simultaneously our production process runs smoothly“.
Step 2: We rewrite the objective as more simple sentences using words maximum, minimum, faster, smaller, more significant, etc. For the above case, we have:
1. “Maximize speed in delivering products to the customer.“
2. “Minimize the cost by transporting the products to the customer.“
3. “Few defective products to the customer.“
4. “Faster response to customer‘s problems.“
We have a problem, though, with the sentence:
“The production process runs smoothly!“
For which we have no immediate solution. It is, therefore, to be more detailed about what you mean by:
“The production process runs smoothly.“
A more detailed version of this proposal could be:
“The production process starts quickly and does not have any delays.“
We attempt now this latest version on the production to analyze in simple sentences, the following:
5. “Minimum preparation time production.“
6. “Minimization of production delays.“
So we have managed to formulate the objective into six (6) simple sentences.
Step 3: For each “simple proposition,“ writing a motion saying the same thing using a figure. We rewrite our proposals, putting underneath and equivalent motion with the analog numeric format:
1. “Maximize speed in delivering products to the customer.“
“We will deliver the products within five (5) days after the customer‘s order.“
2. “Minimize the cost by transporting the products to the customer.“
“Any shipment of products to the customer will be charged 2% products.“
3. “Few defective products to the customer.“
“Defective products will be 0.2% of the submitted pieces.“
4.“Faster response to customer‘s problems.“
“Customer complaints are answered in seven (7) days.“
5.“Minimum preparation time for production.“
“The preparation phase of production is 15 minutes.“
6.“Minimization of production delays.“
“The downtime is 10 per 100 production batches.“
We keep only the equivalent “figures“ proposals and have:
1. “We deliver the products within five (5) days after the customer‘s order.“
2. “We will charge any shipment of products to the customer 2% of products.“
3. “Defective products will be 0.2% of the submitted pieces.“
4.“We answer customer complaints in 7 days.“
5.“The preparation phase of production is 15 minutes.“
6.“The downtime is 10 per 100 production batches.“
These recommendations are called Indices, and we should monitor them. We map the desired value size with one hundred (100) while we matched the zero value of the number size with zero (0). Apply this simple analogy to draw the points for each Index.
Step 4: Assign the supervision of each Index to a partner of the firm. We write Indicators again with their supervisor. We use roles of the chart and not names. So we have:
1. “We will deliver the products ...“ -> (Executive Producer-Director Movement)
2. “Any shipment of products ...“ -> (Movement Director)
3. “Defective products will be ...“ -> (Executive Producer-Director R & D)
4. “The complaints ...“ -> (Customer Support Manager)
5. “The preparation phase ...“ -> (Production Manager)
6. “The disruptions in production ...“ -> (Production Manager)Supervisors per Index may be more than one.
Step 5: Put next to each number as an index weighting (importance). If an index “counts“ more than twice another, you should have double weighting (importance). We write Indicators again with their rate. So we have:
1. “We will deliver the products ...“ -> Factor (5)
2. “Any shipment of products ...“ -> Factor (2)
3. “Defective products will be ...“ -> Factor (2)
4. “The complaints ...“ -> Factor (1)
5. “The preparation phase ...“ -> Factor (2)
6. “The disruptions in production ...“ -> Factor (2)
Thus the degree of achievement of the objectives will be:
score = (x synt1 vath1 + synt2 vath2 x + ....) / (synt1 synt2 + + ...)
Step 6: Define the period for achieving the objectives and the periodicity of inspection Indicators.
The goal obviously will not be reached next week (if severe), and of course, we do not inspect the scores every two years! Therefore, a logical choice is to say that we will achieve our goal of one (1) or two (2) years (depending on how far the aim of the current situation).On the other side are good inspectors Indicators to measure and examine each one (1) month not to lose control.
Step 7: Begin!
Check the value of each Index in each periodic inspection and comment value and deviation from objective. Then, start corrective and preventive actions towards improving the degree of success of the Index if it is problematic (it has a low price). The above will be repeated continuously until the end of time to achieve the objectives (to resume immediately after the new target! Fortunately, or unfortunately, life goes on!)
