The era of one Product for all Customers is back. Now the Customer asks for a Product made for his own specific needs. Companies have to develop, fast and at low-cost, new Products. A Mykosmos procedure can make it happen. The Associate from the Product Management Department can start the process by filling-in a data-form with a subject and notes with the Product's specifications. Documents can be attached as needed. The forwarding of the form starts the process.
New Product's approval
An Activity is created for the Product Management Director. He has to agree with the specifications, to correct or to reject the request. In the case of corrections, the application is forwarded back again to the starter. This is repeated until the specifications are approved by the Director. The approval of new Product development creates, automatically, a record for the proposed Product, a BOM, i.e., a recipe, and a Production Order for this Product. The R&D staff will give the appropriate values to the data required. This is, after all, the job of the R&D department.
Development in the Laboratory and Costing
The request creates, repeatedly, Activities for developing the appropriate BOM for the Product and Activities for testing the quality, to meet the specifications. After a fair BOM is established, the process creates an Activity for costing the recipe. The cost is also checked to be approved. If everything goes well, the process creates another Activity to test the Product in industrial scale production.
Production and Quality tests at an industrial scale
The already created Production Order is programmed for production. After production, a new Activity is sent to the Industrial Quality Control to check for the specifications. In case the quality is not as expected, adjustments are made to the production line, and the series of Activities is repeated again until a fixed set of production regulations is achieved. The final acceptance of industrial production makes the procedure to terminate successfully.
Improve your Company by Correcting any systematic delays
The implementation of New Product Research & Development procedure can leave some lessons in our Company. The Chief Process Officer (or the Quality Manager) has to recognize any systematic causes that are the roots of R&D delays or misunderstandings. The CPO can start a Corrective and Preventive Actions procedure to ask for improvement proposals in various parts of the Company's processes. Those Preventive actions may also cause the insertion of more checkpoints during the execution of some activities or other procedures. The workflow of the process also can change to fit the changed or improved needs for the New Product Research & Development Process. Usually, every Mykosmos Process starts by using a minimal set of activities and data-forms to fill-in and later becomes a relatively composite set of actions and data.
Make New Product Research & Development Process provide Metrics
The automation of the New Product Research & Development Process allows for collecting some essential Metrics about times of delivering new products to the market. For those Metrics, we can later put target values and assign them to Roles into the Company. Those targeted Metrics can then participate in the Company Objectives Metrics, particularly in the Customer Service Excellence section. Finally, through the Company Objectives, can join the final Balanced Scorecard and show their influence in the Company's excellence in the industry that participates.
